Lake Texoma Fishing Report

Fishing hass still been good. Some great topwater action early in the mornings. Biggest on topwater this week was 15 lbs. Been having to go West for better fish after the early topwater bite. Been burning lots of gas but well worth the run for the better quality of fish. Still have some openings this month. Call to book a fun filled trip.

Me and the wife went out about 7:30 this morning. Bait was easy as it was spawning on the bank. One throw and caught about a hundred big Threadfin Shad. Headed out and got on fish right away. Some were small and some were 4 - 7 lbs. Moved in closer to the banks and threw some topwater plugs. Nice fish from 2 to 8 lbs on topwater baits. Moved out again and anchored in 25ft of water and casted back towards the bank. The topwater fishing was great at that spot for over a hour. Will be leaving the dock earlier to fish topwater. Should last a month or maybe more. You will love watching them slap the baits out of the water when they miss them. Even better when they get them and you watch them hit it.

Fishing has still been good. Catching lots of fish. The last four trips has been a lot of smaller fish. I think with all the rain and the warm weather the bigger fish on the West end have headed up the river to spawn. Have still caught some nicer fish, but not nothing like it was where we were catching and releasing lots of bigger fish per trip. I am going out Monday in the main lake looking for bigger fish. The shad spawn is starting so there should be some topwater early. Will post Monday night how I done.

Fishing has still been great. Wednesday the 14th was the only exception. We caught fish that day but was not as many big ones and just not the fast action we have been seeing everyday. Every trip since then has been Great. We are still catching and releasing lots of big fish on about every trip. Come go on a fun filled trip.

Fishing has still been good here on Lake Texoma. My toughest days since early November have been just catching a limit. This last weekend on Saturday and Sunday were great. Tossed several big fish back because we already had our limit of big fish. Sunday alone tossed 25 to 30 fish over 20 inches back. Monday was slow to start but just after 2 in the afternoon they turned on and we got after them. Cleaned 51 on Monday and tossed a bunch of big fish back as well. Tuesday was tough day, only cleaned 28. Stayed out all day and finally caught around 60 fish. Only tossed 6 overs back and probably 20 - 30 dinky fish back.

Today (Friday March 9th) was great right off the start. Got on the water about 8:30. First drift lasted about three hours and we caught fish the whole way. At times fast and at times one here and one there. We cleaned 57. Tossed 25 - 30 dinks back and around 20 big fish. Great day. Should see a lot more days like this as the full moon goes away.

If looking for a great time with family, friends, and co-workers Lake Texoma is the place. If wanting a guide please give me a call. If I am booked I will help you find a guide that I know. As well as know how they do taking care of customers and catching fish.

Hit them good right off the start today. First stop was in Buncombe with little action. Didn't stay there long. Moved out to the main lake and first drift put most of a limit in the box and tossed back 15 or so overs. It slowed down after 11. We stayed out till about 12:30. Figure we caught almost 50 fish today.

Yes fishing is still amazing. Thursday 50+ fish. Friday between both trips 60 - 70 and afternoon was some friends and only fished less than two hours. Saturday 80 - 90. It was cold even starting at 11. Had a couple of women so I figured a couple of hours we would be going in. NOT! The stayed till we finished up. Sunday done a trip from 12:20 till 4:45 Caught somewhere around 60. We cleaned 43. Lots of overs. Every fish since Thursday was on deadsticking. Thursday tried bait with no success. But didn't try it long because we were wacking them on deadsticks.

Had a trip Wednesday 1-11-12. Decided to fish up by Little Glasses. Another guide I fish with had caught a 15 lb, two 16 lb, and a 22lb the Saturday before. I have only fished up there less than 10 times in the 18 years I have fished Texoma. Fishing was good and didn't manage one that broke 20, but did get two that were 12 lbs each. We started about 10 and they were ready to go at 2. Had a great time and caught several Sandies as well. Released several overs as well.

Trip on Saturday 1-14 went great too. We fished in front of Soldier Creek this time. Lots of fish out there in that 60+ ft water. Bait and deadsticking both worked. Seems the deadsticking is better in the afternoon. Been consistently better in the afternnon. We tossed back several over this day as well. Biggest was 13lbs.

Next trip was Thursday 1-19. Wow what a shock. Started at 9:30 ut of Buncombe Creek. No problem getting bait but at noon had 4 fish. Talked to customers and decided we needed to go elsewhere. We loaded the boat and went to Johnson Creek to put in. At 2 it still was looking bad. I knew they were in no hurry and I booked this trip based on how good it had been. They wanted in on some of those days catching 25 - 40 overs. Finally started picking up and we ended up with 56. Only caught 12 overs and a total of 32 Stripers. The rest were Sandies. Not a day like its been being but a lot better than it started. Had to stay out till almost 6 to get it done. Long day but I have to produce for my customers.

Next trip was Friday. It started better than Thursday but still not great. Fished out in front of Soldier and we got them but it was a all day trip like Thursday. We did toss back about 20 overs. But werent able to catch all of our fish under 20". Same thing as last several trips. Deadsticking is a lot better in the afternoon.

Saturday had some repeat customers from Hobbs, New Mexico. Went out of Alberta because the customers stayed there. First time I have ever left from that marina. It was very cold and we had ice in the floor for the first hour or more. We went and got bait elsewhere and got there about 9:30. The other half of the group headed out at 9:00. They headed up by Little Glasses where he had caught those 4 big fish several days before. I checked with him as I headed out and he didn't have anything going so I decided to head around to Soldier Creek where it had been good. Got a half mile or so out of the marina headed around and marked some stuff on my graph. I slowed down and turned around. Marked some scattered schools of fish. So I set a anchor on the river ledge in 70 ft of water. Didn't take long and we had them stacked under us 25 ft thick. I was great but my anchor slipped and we got to 60 ft and it was over. Moved around and set another anchor. Didn't really want to make a long run so we stayed there and picked at them. It was good and about 3:00 it got a lot better. We stayed out till almost 6 again. We would have went in by 4 but the other boat only had a few fish. By now we had caught 50 - 60 fish. couldn't shut the ice chest and they were falling in the floor. We tossed back lots of overs. Biggest today was 13 lbs. had several 7 - 11 lbs as well. Long three days but I had to get them because I had booked these three trips totally based on how good it had been the last 2 - 3 months.

For about two months now we have been catching lots of fish over 20".

Thursday took a group of three and we put in about 11. Never went far from buncombe creek. Never caught a fish outside the cove either. Couple times went out in the main lake looking for the big schools of fish that were there. Not sure where they went but I never found them. We cleaned 27 including 3 Sandys. Tossed back a few overs but sure a lot tougher than its been being.

Friday had four customers. We put in about 10:30. Had bait and ready to go by 11. First drift across the cove we got 4. Second none. Things had went way down hill. At 1:30 I had about 6 fish. I had been saying for a hour I was going out by north island. Finally gave it up and was going. I just kept not wanting too in case it didn't work. But as I started the boat to head that way I got a call from a guide getting them up there. We get up there and he said they had left him. We looked around and I finally seen what might work. Wasn't great but at this point was willing to try anything. The next hour and a half produced a few decent fish but not great. They were all close to the bottom in 60+ ft of water. About 3:45 they stacked up and we got it on for a while. Tossed back several overs and got real close on box fish. About 4:25 we left them biting. Sure pulled the day out.

Saturday we headed out about 10:15. Had customers meet me in Kingston so we could put in at soldier since we got them out front in the deep water friday. We caught a couple deep but the wind came up so headed down by highport to get out of the wind. Done good on the first anchor but quit us at 15 fish. Headed farther West. Caught a few there and decided about 3 to give it up with 26. We had tossed back probably 10 - 15 dinks. Of the 26 had 6 or 7 dinks that were gut hooked. One of the customers was wanting one more 20 minute run. I decided on the way in I would look where we got them Friday evening. Found a good school of fish about 1/4 mile North of where we got them Friday. Had to set a anchor because the wind there was no way to drift baits 60 ft deep. Didn't take 30 seconds and first rod had a fish. We stayed there about 20 minutes and caught several overs and a few box fish and couple more dinks.

Sunday took a group of three. Left the dock about noon. Headed out of Buncombe Creek. Found fish quick. Made a long drift in the river channel. Pulled around 50 fish and kept 30. The wind picked up and they decided at 4 they had a great time. The deadstick action is great. Pulled a 13 lb on this trip.

Tuesday the 3rd. Took a group of five. Deadsticking was the ticket. Caught some on bait but deadsticking was a lot better action. Didnt get a full limit because couldn't find enough box fish. We released 20+ overs.

Fishing still remains amazing. We have still been catching 30 - 50 fish a day over 20" long. The fish are very fat and healthy. Deadsticking is working great. That has to be one of my favorite ways to fish. Will upload some new photos. They will be on the last page of photos.
